Why Reaching Your Ideal Weight Won’t Make You Happy

February 22, 2016

I know. You probably read the title and thought, “what?! Yeah right!” But hear me out. As women we all have our ideal weight whether it includes going back to high school weight, just losing the stomach and toning, getting a little thicker or losing inches. We all have something we would like to change about our weight, we’re human. However, I believe that reaching your ideal weight won’t make you happy unless you learn to love your body first. Have you ever had those moments when you just feel fat, you can’t fit into anything and you don’t feel comfortable? Or what about those moments when you feel you are too small/skinny to be considered attractive and you’d just love to gain enough weight to be considered thick? No matter what it may be, we as women all have something we desire to change about our bodies, but the lack of love we have for our bodies will prevent us from reaching those changes.

Your goal for reaching your ideal weight shouldn’t be because you hate your body. Your goal for your ideal weight should be because you LOVE your body.

Think about how often you put yourself down for your size, for the extra curves you have or the lack thereof, or the constant reminder of how you used to look. This is not the mindset of someone who truly loves their body and desires to take better care of their body and reach a healthier/desirable weight. How many times have you gone through the cycle of talking negatively about yourself and your weight, set diet and exercise goals, start those goals, lose motivation and fall off track? Only to start the cycle all over again. We’ve all been there, we’ve all done it. If you’ve been in or are still in this constant cycle, a new diet plan or weight loss goal is not going to keep you motivated. Learning to truly love your body and yourself for where you are right now is where you need to start and is what is going to keep you motivated. When you truly love and care about something you’re going to take care of it, right? Same thing goes with your body.

The model in the cover image is Tess Holliday and she is a plus size model and body positivity icon who started her #effyourbeautystandards movement on Instagram in 2013. Her mission to inspire women to love their bodies no matter what size has been an epidemic. Many women of all shapes and sizes have fallen in love with her confidence and her boldness. Campaigns for companies like Dove have also joined in on this body positivity movement to unite women and promote self-love.

If you are in this constant back and forth with weight loss but haven’t yet reached your ideal weight, ask yourself why. If your ideal weight loss goal is so you can finally be happy with yourself, then reaching that goal won’t make you happy. You will still struggle with loving yourself as you will always find something wrong. Let your motivation for your ideal weight goal be because you love yourself enough to start taking better care of your body. Let your motivation be your desire to feel better and live longer. Let your motivation be your desire to be a living example to your family and friends. Let your motivation be your desire to start treating your body as the temple God has declared it to be. Those are things that will truly make you happy once you are on that journey and when you reach that goal.

Make the decision today to stop putting yourself down, stop talking negatively about what isn’t right with your body, and start loving yourself – that’s the first step in reaching your ideal weight.

Until next time…

I cried reading this. I have been gaining a steady stream of weight since graduating High School and have been trying to get back to that size for years. And it was here I realized it was for all the wrong reasons. Thank you for addressing this. As always you are truly a blessing.

Thank you for sharing! Sometimes it’s hard to reverse those negative thoughts we manifest about ourselves because we’ve had them for so long. Learning to love yourself as you are is hard, but it is possible! Hang in there!

I feel like at this point sharing bad news has been the biggest part of my journey. We did our 4th embryo transfer on Monday, March 6. When I got confirmation a week later that I was not pregnant and our 4th attempt failed, I told God, “this is getting old” 😞 It feels like we’ve experienced so much disappointment, sadness, frustration and grief on this journey that it’s getting harder and harder to imagine what the other side will look like.

When I started my fertility journey, I legit thought we would be successful on our first round. I thought this journey would go by pretty quickly and never thought we would experience loss. Four years of treatment later, and here we are - still in the wait, still hoping our day will come, still holding onto faith, still pushing through the pain of this journey.

My pastor recently said that sometimes God gives us assignments we didn’t ask for, but if God brings us to it He will bring us through it. And I’m crazy enough to believe that despite everything we’ve been through, God still has something amazing for us up ahead. He’s already gone before us and prepared it for us, it’s just waiting for us 🤍

With each passing year and cycle, our journey feels more and more like a math equation - counting how many years we’ve been trying, how many transfers we’ve done, how many embryos we have remaining and how many little babes we’ve lost. Even though all of it is just too much, I see how God has kept us through all of it. Even though we haven’t gotten our victory yet, we are still victorious 🙌🏽

7 years trying to conceive
4 years of treatment
4 surgeries
2 miscarriages
2 failed transfers
5 babies lost

And yet the #crazyfaith journey continues 🙏🏽

I’m a press-on nails girlie now and I love this for me 💅🏾

I have been eyeing this set by @kissproducts for a while and decided to give them a try. They are my favorite yet! I love how natural they look and how easy they were to apply. Some of the girlies on TikTok told me to dehydrate my nails with acetone nail polish remover before applying my nails, so that’s what you see me doing here. Apparently it helps the nails adhere to your natural nails even better!

Let me know what you think of these and if you’re a press-on girlie, which nails should I try next! ⬇️

What God is preparing you for is bigger than you imagined. That’s why He had you wait. Start preparing for what you’ve been praying for. You’re entering into your “and God remembered her” season. Claim it, believe it and receive it 🙌🏽

I grew up on Detroit style pizza way before I even knew it was a thing! If you don’t know or haven’t had it, Detroit style pizza is top tier. It’s a deep dish crispy crusted goodness and in my top two favorite types of pizza.

I was craving one and decided to make it at home. This was my first attempt and although it’s not perfect yet, it still gave what it needed to give 🙌🏽

I used two 8” aluminum deep dish pans, these are a great alternative if you don’t have a deep dish pan. The ingredients include:

•Publix premade pizza dough
•All purpose flour
•Olive oil
•Rao’s marinara sauce (@raoshomemade has THEEE best sauce)
•Mozzarella cheese
•Turkey pepperoni
•Mike’s hot honey @mikeshothoney

I baked the pizzas on 450 for about 25 minutes.

I was so happy with the outcome and it satisfied my craving! I’ll share this recipe tutorial again the next time I make it! In the meantime, let me know in the comments your favorite pizza (style, type, toppings) ⬇️
