Ever had one of those moments in life when wished you could stop time or hit reset? Like think about when your iPhone (or Android) isn’t working properly and you have the option to do a factory reset and that helps to fix the problem. Wouldn’t it be great if life were like that? When you’ve somehow gotten derailed or things just don’t seem to be going right, wouldn’t it be great to be able to just hit reset? Well, I like to think that to a certain extent life does allow you to reset. You can’t go back in time and undo what has been done, but you do have the ability to mentally and spiritually refocus and reset. The reset button in your life can be whatever you deem it to be – fasting, taking a vacation, unplugging from social media, getting some much needed rest on an off day, or getting back into a routine or activity you once enjoyed. I want to talk about when it’s time to hit that reset button, when you’ve reached a point where you don’t seem to be functioning at your highest level and you can just feel that it’s time for a change or you may just fall apart.
When you feel mentally and physically exhausted. (Mind + Body)
If you still feel exhausted even after getting plenty of sleep, it may not be sleep that you are in need of and may be time to reevaluate some things in preparation for a reset. There have been times when despite having adequate sleep over the course of a few days, I still felt drained and unmotivated to do anything other than laying around watching HGTV or Lifetime. When I get that feeling, I usually ask myself what’s lacking, what areas in my life have I been neglecting and I usually find the reason for those feelings.
When you can’t seem to focus or accomplish tasks. (Mind)
If you find yourself unable to focus on the simplest things or you find it difficult to complete tasks, it may be time for a reset. Your mind may be filled with other distractions that may make it difficult for you to focus. There have been times when I’m working on something and I stop in the middle of it just to check my social media accounts. It became so frequent that I was spending less and less time on daily tasks and found that I actually was not accomplishing as much as I could because most of my time was spent on social media.
When you don’t engage in activities you once loved. (Body + Mind)
If you used to enjoy going to the gym, taking a daily walk or reading, but now it seems like such a chore and you have internal battles with yourself, then you may be in need of a reset. Things you once loved, that still are of interest or desire to you, shouldn’t feel like a chore. You shouldn’t have to give yourself a pep talk to do something that you enjoy and something that makes you feel good especially if it’s good for you. Last year I challenged myself to a 13 week health and fitness journey and I grew to love working out. I enjoyed pushing myself and seeing how far I could go, I loved the after-workout feeling of being sore and tired (call me weird, but I LOVE soreness from a workout) and I enjoyed seeing other people working hard towards their goals. As of recent, my attitude towards the gym has been meh! That’s how I know it’s time for some internal evaluating and a reset!
When you feel like you’re no longer connected to your source of power. (Spirit)
Have you ever felt so far from God that you just feel weak? Or like everything you touch seems to come to ruin? Or have you ever just felt empty? It may be time to reconnect to your source of power – God. He’s the one that gives you the ability and strength to do everything and He even fills in gaps where you may be lacking. So how can you go days or weeks without Him? I can always tell when I’m not connected to God as my source of power because I literally lose power. I lose motivation and focus and I get really tired.
Join me!
Over the next 21 days I am doing a mind, body and spirit reset. I have felt/currently feel like all the above and after much evaluation (the perfectionist in me speaking lol), I’ve decided that it’s time to reset. I’ve gotten a little off track in a couple areas and would also like overall improvement to better help me achieve my 2017 goals. In order to do that I need to get realigned mentally, physically and spiritually and this is the reason for the 21-day reset. Why 21 days? Some say it takes 21 days to form a habit, some say it’s not true, but in all honesty I just liked the sound of 21 days lol and I didn’t want to overwhelm myself with a large number. Starting with 21 days sounded realistic to me so I went with it! Almost 3 weeks to get my life realigned? That sounds like a good start and then the days thereafter will be maintenance, but we will get to that later. Right now, let’s focus on these 21 days and knock them out! Not sure where to begin? Here’s an example of some ways you can reset:
Mind
- Engage in things that promote mental growth and edification like researching ways to launch that new business idea you have
- Read/finish reading a book that is motivating and inspiring to you
- Journal and/or write out daily objectives to your 2017 goals – you should be doing something everyday that gets you closer to your goals
Body
- Move your body daily and this doesn’t have to be going hard in the gym everyday, it can be something as simple as taking a daily walk, reaching your daily step goal or taking the steps at work instead of the elevator
- Eating healthy daily – prepping your meals at the beginning of the week is so helpful because your meals for the week are already planned and you don’t have to think about it
Spirit
- Start your day with daily prayer and devotion – don’t start your day with social media
- Have small talks with God throughout your day, reflect on what you read/studied that morning
- Write down your daily prayer requests as well as testimonies
I hope this was helpful and I hope that you will join me on this 21-Day Reset! Follow me on my social media accounts to see what I’m doing daily to reset and if you’re joining in be sure to post daily on your social media what you are doing as it relates to mind, body and spirit. It can be all three or just one area daily, it’s up to you! Be sure to tag me @sheexperienced and also use the hashtags #sheexperienced #21dayreset. Let’s goooo!!!
Until next time,
