We’ve all been there… Just over it! Over a situation that is just too overwhelming, over your job, over dealing with certain people, just over it all! But how do you stay encouraged when you feel like you’ve just had it? How do you find the strength to keep going when you feel like giving up? I want to share some ways that I cope in times like this…
Think on the many times/situations you’ve overcome.
Whenever I feel discouraged, annoyed, or frustrated about something, my husband always sits me down and reminds me of some of the toughest situations in my life that I’ve overcome and how God blessed me in those moments. That is a great way to not only encourage yourself but to give yourself the hope that whatever current situation you’re in will also pass. You realize you can handle a lot more when you think back on where you’ve been and the things God brought you through.
Count your blessings.
As cliche’ as this may sound, it’s so real. Sometimes when I’m just “over” a situation, my husband (again) helps me reflect on the goals I’ve accomplished, whether big or small, and encourages me to just think on those things. Sometimes you have to stop and think on all the blessings you’ve received, think on how far you’ve come and although you aren’t where you want to be, you aren’t where you used to be. Count how many times God has come through for you, think back on that time He blessed you right on time, laugh about that time Satan thought he had you but he didn’t.
Read something inspirational/uplifting.
One of the best ways to be encouraged or feel uplifted is to read something that can/will do just that! Whether it’s a few of God’s promises in the bible or an inspirational book, take your mind off of whatever is bothering and allow yourself to be poured into. Be reminded of all the reasons why you should continue to push forward. Be reminded of your own strength and the purpose you still have to fulfill.
Do something for yourself.
When you’re constantly pouring into others, which is what we as women do, sometimes you can get burned out and just “over” everything. It’s important to pour into yourself sometimes as well. When you’ve reached that point of being “over it”, do something that you love, whether it’s watching Netflix, taking a nice walk, treating yourself to a new outfit, getting your hair or nails done or indulging in your favorite desert. It’s important to tap back into you especially when you need a little encouragement.
Talk about it with a spouse/significant other or friend.
Go to your spouse/significant other and tell them all about it, I’m sure they have an encouraging word and a wonderful way to make you feel better 🙂 You can also talk it out with a friend, someone you trust and someone who can be honest with you and give you an encouraging word. Get together with your girls for a girls night! Go on a day date with your boo! Surround yourself with people who love you and want the best for you. Don’t run to someone who’s just going to allow you to complain and join in on your pity party or someone who’s going to leave you feeling worse. Talk to someone who you know can help lift your spirits.
Write about the things that are bothering you.
Another thing that I like to do to feel encouraged is to write down everything that is bothering me. There have been numerous times when I’ve written down things that I was feeling overwhelmed about and/or unsure about the solution, so I wrote those things down, prayed over them and literally watched God work those things out – some on that very same day. In case you haven’t picked up on it by now, I love to write. It’s therapeutic for me. I’ve always been one to journal my thoughts and feelings, so that is a great way to gain some encouragement and lift your feelings when you feel overwhelmed and “over it”.
God.
The last thing, which kind of goes without saying as it should be the first thing you do, is prayer. Have a conversation with God about your thoughts and feelings. As I said before, we’ve all been there – overwhelmed, frustrated, annoyed, just “over it” – and the one who gives us strength to carry on is who we should seek first and foremost. He’s the source and answer to any and everything we face and trying to do it alone is usually when we reach that point of being “over it”. When you get to that point, it’s time take a break, go back to the source, get recharged and get back in the game.
I hope this was helpful for you. If you think of any additional ways that help you feel encouraged, please share them with me below. I’d love to hear from you!
Until next time…
