HIV/AIDS Awareness Fashion Show

March 25, 2015

I had the honor of sponsoring an amazing event for an even more amazing cause! I was contacted by Brittney Brooks of the Alabama Aids Action Coalition to partner with her in putting on their annual HIV/AIDS Awareness Fashion Show for young girls and women. Without a doubt I accepted the opportunity as I am all about empowering women. Brittney and I met several times and I linked her with a few connections to assist us in putting together this event. Neither Brittney or I had any experience in putting on a fashion show, so it was nothing but God’s divine intervention that she was linked with Jeff Wilder (who I’ve known since I was younger, he’s like family) and Antonia McFadden of Novateur, the fashion organization at Oakwood University. It was such a blessing because they are beasts at what they do! We were glad to put the planning, organizing and styling in their hands. They searched the thrift store for some of the clothing and partnered with Altr’d State at Bridge Street in Huntsville for the rest. The items that they picked flowed so well with the “Schooling Life” theme we selected which included songs from Beyonce – Diva, Irreplaceable, Run the World and Survivor. Each of these songs represented a different category of women empowerment: confident, unique, strong and survivor.

Some of our partners for this event include:

MC – Micha Logan aka ML6 of 103.1 WEUP

Photographer – Melvin Payne

DJ – DJ Poppa Rooster

Stylists, Model Recruit – Novateur

Makeup artists – Brooke Mitchell, Shonte Baltes and Novateur’s makeup artist

Models – Lee and New Century High School and Novateur

Take a look at some photos from the fashion show:

At the event the AAC offered free HIV testing in a private room and education on the illness. This was such a great experience and I am honored to have been sought out as a partner. It was great to give back to the community and provide these amazing high school girls this opportunity to promote HIV/AIDS awareness.

Until next time…
