I can’t believe we have reached yet another year. It seems that 2014 went by so fast and I remember saying 2014 was “my year” (I think we all say that every year lol). I reflected on my 2014 goals and plans and can’t help but laugh at how some things didn’t go according to my plan. I recall the saying, “if you want to hear The Lord laugh, tell Him what you have planned”. Countless times I’ve told The Lord what I had planned for 2014 only to see my plans turn out how I hadn’t planned. Funny how that works. It wasn’t until I decided to start taking my plans to The Lord and laying them at His feet in order to accept His plan for my life. 2014 was a year of discovery for me. Discovering things about myself and areas of improvement I never knew needed improving, discovering my deepest desires and God showing me the way to reach them, discovering that marriage is hard work and it doesn’t work without God, and discovering that I’m still afraid of being ME!
My goal for 2015 is to challenge those discoveries, to continue to grow and improve and to be better than I was in 2014. I am so thankful for the blessings, the challenges, the pain and the joy that 2014 brought. I learned so much from it all and am carrying those lessons into 2015 to face all that is to come.
In 2015 I want to connect with more women, step out of my comfort zone and do things I never thought I would do. I want to share my experiences, my fears, my thoughts and dreams with others in hopes that they will share their own. I, along with my colleague Jewell Thomas, will be launching The Ladies Lounge, An Empowerment Affair and I hope to consistently be involved in the community and in the lives of women. I also want to obtain my social work license this year and transition into doing more clinical work, whether individual or group therapy. As I mentioned, last year was about discovery and this year for me will be about action. I’m tired of wanting more but being afraid to step out and get it.
I’m challenging myself to live a healthier lifestyle – exercising and making healthier food choices. I also would like to read more and take time away from social media and TV more often through the week for mental nourishment. At times I feel like I spend more time on social media and/or watching TV than I do edifying my mind. I will strive to take more time each week to do this.
I could go on and on about how I would like to evolve this year, but I want to focus on what I can do now and take it a day at a time. I think sometimes we get so caught up in the New Years Resolution madness that we set a lot goals for ourselves that may not be easily attainable. When setting goals, it’s important to take current lifestyle into consideration and to keep it simple. Remember don’t take on more than you can handle. It’s better to work and focus on one goal each day than to have several that you never seem to juggle.
Be blessed and have a happy new year!!!
Until next time…
