This year I decided that one of my goals would be to love my natural hair more. Growing up I considered my hair my best feature especially during the time when I didn’t love anything about how I looked. In 2009 when I made the decision to finally love and embrace myself, birthmark and all, I also decided to cut my hair. You know they say a woman who cuts her hair is preparing for changes in her life. Anyway, after maybe a year of rocking a short cut, I was over it and decided to grow my hair back. The growing back awkward phase is the worst, so I began wearing weaves a lot. Once my hair grew back to a manageable length and with the growth of the hair extensions industry, I just kept wearing weaves and eventually wigs because of the convenience, the fullness and the fact that I didn’t have to damage my hair. Now as of recent, when I attempt to wear my natural hair I end up hating it and being discouraged for a few reasons. First, my hair is super fine/thin and I just feel like I can do nothing with it. Second, the humidity in Huntsville prevents me from wearing it straight. Third, wigs are just easier! LOL
After washing my hair a few months ago, my husband told me that he likes my natural hair and that I should wear it more. Whenever my husband makes a request pertaining to hair or fashion, I eagerly take heed 🙂 So, I’ve decided to work with this fine/thin curly hair! I always resort to YouTube or Pinterest when I need a little direction in areas of hair, fashion, food and decor, so to YouTube I went! I’ve found vloggers with hair like mine and have gotten great product info and style tutorials. So I’m going to try out this natural curly girl thing for a minute and keep you posted on my journey 🙂
