So we are in month two (going into month three) of our home building process. Shortly after securing our lot and signing the contract we went to the design center to pick out the customizable features for the house. This was a fun experience but it did cause me a little frustration because there was just so much to choose from that I just didn’t anticipate. Like I knew about the basic choices like flooring, countertops, and cabinets; but when it got down to faucets, electric outlet placing, brick color, and paint finishes, the fun went away! But not really! Our interior designer and Joe helped make the process fun and Joe got to exercise his artist skills and picked out some great features (the master bathroom flooring and the granite kitchen countertops). Take a look at some of our choices from the design center…
There were some things I knew I wanted before going in, like I knew I wanted light hardwood floors, gray wall color, and gray/lighter color kitchen countertops and lighter cabinetry. I want our home to be light, bright and airy yet cozy. It was fun getting my HGTV on, but I can’t wait to see it all come together!
Here’s some progress!! Eek!!
At this point they broke ground, we met with our builder and the next step is for them to lay the slab and then up goes the framing. When we see the framing, they said we can start our countdown! We’re super anxious, I continuously stalk the lot and just dream about what our new home will look like. I simply cannot wait and I’m so thankful, I can’t say it enough! God is beyond good!
We have some trees in our lot which at first we were both skeptical about because of how often it storms here and the thought of a tree or its branches falling onto our home is scary. But after talking to other homeowners who have trees in their yards, they have some good use like shade in the summer especially with how hot it gets down here and they haven’t had any terrible experiences during storms. I guess once we get into our home, we’ll know whether we want to keep the trees or not, but I’ve been seeing a lot of beautiful landscaping ideas for backyards with trees via Pinterest and we may just keep them. But I love that we have that option. With us wanting to grow our family, trees in the backyard sound fun! Plus certain things about this home remind me of my grandmother including the trees 🙂
Well, the next update will be after the framing! Can’t wait! Of course, I’ll share more progress pics and may even do a video and start vlogging….we shall see.
Until next time…
