Hey loves,
I recently went to Washington, DC for a training with my job. I haven’t been to DC in years so I wanted to try to make the most of this short trip and provide you with some travel info for the next time you travel to DC. My co-worker and I stayed downtown at the Cambria Suites, which was within walking distance of our training location. So convenient!
This hotel is located at the new City Market O Street, just steps from the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. Cambria is the all-suites hotel where style, form and function meet. Their well-appointed guest rooms provide all the amenities needed to make the most of your travel with a modern decor. Accessible by Metro and walking-distance to D.C.’s entertainment hub, Cambria is the place to be to enjoy all the District has to offer. Reflect by the courtyard fire pit, on the rooftop patio, or in the modern and spacious lobby. Refresh at their rooftop state-of-the-art gym and pool. Refill with an à la carte breakfast or traditional hot buffet; in the evening sit at the bar & lounge for a Fresh, Fun and Familiar drink and dinner menu! Cambria Suites welcomes you to experience the stay changing the pace of business travel. – Cambria Suites DC
This hotel certainly made me feel like I was in a high class environment, from the curbside valet service, to the greeters in the lobby, to the spacious, luxurious rooms and lights that are motioned detected. The decor in the hotel was so modern and chic from the wall art, to the furniture and table art. The employees were amazingly helpful and wanted to ensure that you enjoyed your stay. Before I even arrived my coworker was sure to let me know how “awesome” the hotel was and that I “always pick great hotels”. I arrived late on Sunday night. I was cold and tired but the smiling face of the receptionist helped to cheer me up and made me feel a lot better about being up so late.
I certainly had a great time staying at the Cambria. I will probably say it was one of the nicest hotels I’ve stayed in and just had to capture the moments. Take a look at some photos I took of the hotel, including my room, bathroom, lobby, roof-top deck and fitness center.
While I was in DC I wanted to make sure in my short time that I did three things: see my family, eat good and see some Olivia Pope sites (site-seeing) LOL.
On the first day of training my coworker and I went to a local Thai restaurant (I LOVE Thai food) called Beau Thai on New Jersey Ave. If you love Thai food, I would def recommend Beau Thai. Very inexpensive, fast service and delicious food. I ordered the Panang Chicken Curry with white rice. One thing I loved about it is that it was true Thai spicy, if that makes sense. I love spicy food and have had food that was supposed to be spicy but wasn’t. This dish was perfect! And I also had a Thai tea with it 🙂
Here’s the Beau Thai restaurant which was within walking distance from our training site. I didn’t get any pictures of my food (smh). I must do better! But any who, this place was so good that we ate there again on Tuesday!
That evening I went to the Cheesecake Factory with my aunt and cousin. Everyone should be familiar with the Cheesecake Factory, but just in case you’re not here are some of my favorite dishes (just to name a few):
Stuffed Mushroom
Fried Mac-n-Cheese
Fried Mozzarella
Buffalo Wings
Factory Burrito Grande
Sweet Corn Tamale Cakes (my newest fave)
When it comes to the cheesecakes, my faves are the Caramel De Leche and Blueberry.
The third restaurant I visited while in DC was Art and Soul. My (other) aunt took me around downtown DC in the evening and then to Art and Soul where we had reservations. Art and Soul is a southern artsy restaurant with an upscale yet laid back feel.
Helmed by James Beard award-winning Chef Art Smith and Executive Chef Douglas Alexander, Art and Soul exudes true Southern warmth and hospitality. Playful regional elements such as hand-painted farm signs and traditional folk are also used throughout the space in honor of the D.C. restaurant’s regional influences. In warmer weather, an expansive front patio provides an al fresco dining option with a fire-pit and grill. – Art and Soul Restaurant
My last day in DC I hopped into the car with my cousin who took me around the Olivia Pope parts lol for some site-seeing before I had to leave. Take a look at DC from my point of view…
As I mentioned, I was only in DC for a few days so I didn’t get to do or see a lot but I had a good time while I was there. Take a quick peek of some pics I snapped while at training at the Safe Shores—The DC Children’s Advocacy Center:
Thanks for joining me on my travel venture!
Until next time…
