“She turned her can’ts into cans and her dreams into plans”
The Ladies Lounge launched just one week ago at Amendment XXI in downtown Huntsville, AL at 6:00 p.m. Ladies from near and far glammed up and gathered together for a night of empowerment and networking. Many didn’t know what to expect but were just eager to be able to get out of the house on a Sunday for a few hours. Upon arrival at Amendment XXI, ladies were instructed to head upstairs and were greeted by our hostess who checked them in, encouraged them to enter their names into our giveaway, provided them with The Ladies Lounge Membership Interest Card and requested all clothing donations be placed in the box provided. When ladies entered into the lounge they were amazed at how the space was transformed into the perfect lounge for ladies. With the walls sprinkled with empowering words, splashes of pink and gold all around, the smell of sweet treats in the air and the smooth sounds of jazz music creating a classic tone, the ladies seemed to feel warm and comfortable as they mixed and mingled. We provided ladies with the opportunity to share business cards if they were business owners, catch up with friends, meet new friends and take photos in front of our Ladies Lounge banner ๐
Jewell and I introduced each other, sharing with the ladies a little bit about our individual businesses and how we came together to create The Ladies Lounge. At each table was an “about” card that shared information about The Ladies Lounge. We informed the ladies that this is a monthly empowerment affair for women who usually don’t take the time to cater to themselves and their own needs because of the many hats they wear and the many duties of a woman, i.e. husband, children, jobs, school, families, and the list goes on. We explained that The Ladies Lounge is the “you time” or “me time” that we all need, even if it’s just once a month. The Ladies Lounge is for all women, whether young or old at heart, to come together in a safe and comfortable environment to engage, share and dream.
We provided the ladies with light refreshments including an assorted fruit, cheese and cracker tray, deviled eggs, chicken kabobs and iced tea. Oh! And I can’t forget the made-with-love desserts that were sure to satisfy any sweet tooth!
Tabitha Malone of Made Pretty Ministries here in Huntsville, AL was our special guest. We tried to avoid calling her a “speaker” because she didn’t deliver a speech, instead it was an encouraging word and dialogue among ladies with questions, desires and dreams. She talked about finding your purpose and how as women we have to know ourselves in order to find our purpose. If you don’t know who you are, how can you discover your purpose and who you are destined to become? Knowing yourself begins with self. Your self-esteem and, more importantly, your self-worth. Tabitha explain that self-esteem relates to the way we feel about ourselves externally, i.e. the way we look, feel, act and the way we are perceived. ย Self-worth on the other hand has more to do with an internal sense of self. Self-worth refers to feelings of importance, belonging and identity. Self-worth involves finding meaning in your life and a sense of ownership or purpose. When you have a sense of self-worth you will begin to tap into discovering your purpose, you will be able to decipher between the healthy and unhealthy company you keep and you will be able to walk into your destiny. Tabitha shared with our ladies that The Ladies Lounge is a safe place for women to dream. It’s a safe place where women can come once a month to cater to their own needs and interests. If we don’t take the time out to care for ourselves, we can’t truly care for the needs of others.
We had wonderful gifts to give to some lucky ladies! Shannon “Shan Fine” Hampton of Epiphany Beauty Salon, Phillipa “Philly” Pou of Salon Prive’ and Natasha Langford of The Style Bar sponsored our giveaway. They donated gift cards/certificates for their services and store. We pulled names and announced the winners who hurried up front to claim their prize!
At each table were pink and black cups that said either “celebrate” or “cheers”. Each cup had a beautiful empowering message written on pink paper attached to either sparkling gold or sparkling black paper. In the middle of the tables were strips of gold paper with more empowering sayings including, “I am empowered by the grace of God”, “I am more than a conqueror”, “I am purposed for greatness”, “My body is beautiful”, “I will be healthy” and many many more! We explained to the ladies that these cups were to be filled with the empowering words they found on their table and that each day or week or whenever they needed some encouragement, they could pour out these words and be reminded that they have a purpose to fulfill. We don’t often celebrate ourselves, so this was a perfect reminder for each lady to celebrate the goodness God has done in each of their lives. Cheers!
All of the ladies gathered together for a group picture and continued to mix and mingle until we were practically thrown out of the building LOL. It was such an uplifting and overwhelming experience for myself and Jewell. A year ago this was just a thought I quietly spoke about, but to see a year later it actually come into fruition with an amazing like-minded partner is truly a blessing from God.
