My New Obsession: Crochet Braids

Ever since I learned how to do my own hair I have always been changing up my hair styles. I’ve tried so many different colors and styles that some people don’t believe when I tell them. I’ll pretty much try anything that I think is cute and I’ve been loving this crochet braid trend. However, I never really thought I would jump into the crochet life simply because I’m not a fan of pack hair (hair that comes in a package found at any local beauty supply store – for those who aren’t familiar with the term) anymore lol. For a while it’s been virgin hair only unless I’m doing braids. I just feel like anything that is not of good quality is a waste of time and money, but that’s just me! The last time I did a style with curly pack hair it matted up so bad that I ended up taking it down within a week. I know some of my friends and family will probably laugh because that’s usually how long I keep one style anyway good hair or not, that’s not the point! I took it down out of irritation and dissatisfaction and not boredom lol. So with the crochet braids I saw many people doing the crochet braids with Marley hair and I just know how I am when it comes to hair that’s itchy and tangles easily. I envisioned myself being irritated with crochet braids, so I told myself that’s one style I wouldn’t be trying.

I recently ran across YouTube videos about crochet wigs using Kanekalon hair, the packaged hair I use for braids). The results in the videos were beautiful and the fact that it was a wig meant that I could take it off each day and not sleep on it which helps to keep it from matting so quickly. I thought using Kanekalon which is softer and straighter than Marley hair would be better for me and match my natural hair texture a lot better. I decided to give it a try! Both of these styles are crochet wigs with Kanekalon hair.

I also gave the Marley hair a try and actually did a crochet braided style instead of a wig. I was preparing to go to Miami for a mini vacay and didn’t want to worry about a wig. The crochet braid style with the Marley hair actually worked out really well for me. Of course it was tangled, but it really didn’t matter because it’s supposed to look natural. It was perfect for my trip because I would wake up, unwrap it (I tied it up in a pineapple at night), and go! I kept them in for two weeks! That’s good right?! lol

Here’s my most recent crochet style. I loved my previous crochet style so much that I did it again. I used Bahama Curl by Deja Vu. When I saw this pre-curled “pack hair” in my beauty supply store I knew I had to try it out. I have always wanted BIG hair and I wanted to go big with this style. So far so good!

I have fallen for the crochet life! It’s so convenient and so fun! It gives me the kinky big voluminous hair that I’ve always wanted 🙂 It’s maintenance free which is perfect if you don’t have time or don’t want to do your hair in the mornings.
